Klaserie Wildlife
There are no fenced borders separating the Klaserie from the Kruger which means there is a constant flow of animals into the area and it won’t take longer before you encounter a long list sightings, from prides of lions and packs of hyenas, to herds of African tuskers, buffalos, and many more.
Guided 4x4 game drives top the agenda at Makumu Lodge and depart promptly in the early morning and late afternoon when the sun is not as fierce and the energy levels of animals are at their highest.
Step Out into the Savannah
At Makumu Private Lodge you can also embark on daily walking safaris led by experienced (and armed) trackers who will introduce you to the smaller creatures of the reserve.
You’ll quickly discover all the wonderful and intricate details that you would typically miss while seated on a 4x4, such as footprints, tree markings and folds in the grass that indicate that an animal has passed through the area.
Since you can be a lot stealthier on foot, these walks come highly recommended for keen bird watchers who’d like to tick off a few sightings during their stay.
